Location: FSU Strozier LibraryTopic/Skill: Speaking skills
Feedback provided to tutee: For our final meeting, the tutee and I decided to just work on speaking skills. Learning from lack of structure during the previous meeting, I prepared a speaking topic. I had the tutee first tell me about their day, then had the tutee tell me specifically about their plans for the upcoming months. There was a focus on future tense, which the tutee had a good grasp on. The tutee has also begun to consistently self-correct before I can intervene. I advised that they continue to practice having that kind of awareness as they go forward in their studies.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Closing out a set of tutoring sessions is an interesting situation. I felt that I should have had some sort of wise advice to leave with my student but I did not. Instead I left with a sense of what I could do better next time I had this opportunity. Overall, plans and structure seemed most important to me but I also would give importance to the relevance of discussed topics to the student's life.
