Topic/Skill: Reading comprehension and writing skills
Feedback provided to tutee: There was some technical difficulties during this tutoring session but I was able to help the tutee with reading comprehension regardless. I had the tutee read a short passage to me out loud. His accent is still very strong and he required help with pronunciation, particularly where "ed" words are concerned. But he understood the passage well. To double check for comprehension, I had him summarize the passage. We are still working on correcting the issue of extra words in sentences and the occasional mixing of tenses.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Technical difficulties are more common than you might think and it is important to be flexible. I find that I am really enjoying the online set up, however, to quickly demonstrate grammar points compared to having to take up time writing out entire examples. That said, it is easy to go too fast so as always, comprehension checks throughout the session are important. I need to work on finding alternative ways of explaining concepts in general as it seems that I always get stuck when my initial explanations are not enough.
