Date/Time: 01/12/2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. with Dr. Angel Rios.
Topic/Skill: This class reviewed the present perfect continuous and the future continuous verb tenses.
Teacher Presentation: Dr. Angel Rios was very animated and approachable in the classroom. He expressively displayed different examples and the impact of tone. He also told personal anecdotes which made the class feel close to him and comfortable sharing their own stories.
Classroom Management: The class was very comfortable and confident in the classroom, considering there was music playing, candy provided, and it was a very relaxing environment. The students were encouraged to participate in the classroom and engaged with the teacher and one another in the activities given.
Materials: Classroom, computer and projector, speaker, personal laptops or access to textbook,
Student Participation: The students worked in groups of two to come up with two sentences, each using different locations in the present perfect continuous tense and then each student would share a sentence with the class. Then, the students also all worked together in the class to write an itinerary for a party including what they will be doing at certain times to discuss the future continuous tense.
Feedback Provided: Dr. Rios provided feedback to every student when they shared their sentences in the class that they came up with in their small group work. Additionally, when the class was scheduling the itinerary for the party, Dr. Rios made sure every student was participating and giving them automatic feedback on their sentences.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: The biggest lesson I learned was how to stay on track and focused in a lesson, even if other topics come up. For example, Dr. Rios would quickly correct students' grammatical mistakes, even if it was something the class had not covered yet. For example when the use of prepositions came up, he would say “Do not worry about it too much. We will focus on it later, but just trust me for now.” This was a great way to place the idea of a new grammatical topic in the students’ minds, without shifting the focus of the entire class and getting off track, which could happen easily.
